Flowering plants belong to a large group called the Angiospermae. Their sexual reproductive structures are flowers, which develop into fruits containing seeds. They include all the colourful insect pollinated flowers, broad-leaved trees and grasses. The trees and grasses are covered separately on this site. Angiosperms are considered to be the most advanced plants compared with conifers, ferns and mosses. Redmire has flowering plants representative of various habitats including moorland, mining spoil, gardens, disrbubed ground, farmland and woodland, and reflects the diversity of Yorkshire Dales flora, particularly Wensleydale. Most species listed below are UK natives, but a few are introductions and garden escapes that have become established in the wild.
