The lepidoptera is a large order of insects ranging from micro moths to colourful butterflies. The bodies and wings of the adults are covered by scales. Adults possess a proboscis, which is a structure for feeding on liquid food, typically nectar. The larvae are commonly called caterpillars and feed by biting vegetation using mandibles.
