Pleurozium schreberi

Red stemmed feather moss

Pleurozium schreberi, Red Stemmed Feather Moss, together with the moss Ryhtidiadelphus squarrosus, the lichen Cladonia rangiformis and the grass Festuca ovina, Sheep's Fescue, make up a large proportion of ground cover on Cobscar Rake. All four species are tolerant of lead and other heavy metals and benefit from low competition from more vigorous species in this difficult environment. Click here for mining page.
