Gerris lacustris

Pond Skater

Gerris lacustris, Pond Skater, is a bug inhabiting the surface of still water, held by the surface tension of the water. It is a carnivore and scavenger, feeding on insects thast have become trapped by the water. Gerris feeds by sucking the juices from its prey, then discards the exoskeleton. Although Redmire lacks ponds, small pools on the moor provide a suitable habitat for Pond Skaters.
