Gastrotrich
Microscopic freshwater animal
Gastrotrich. A group of microscopic freshwater animals that feed in the pond bottom detritus. Generally less than 1mm long ans transparent. The specimens illustrated here were collected from a temporary pool besides the disused railway. This pool dries out in summer, but is rich in deaying leaves during the winter.
