Dock Aphid

Aphis rumicis, Dock Aphid. A black Aphid found usually on Dock plants, causing the leaves to curl. In common with other aphids, this species is a sap feeder. Present in summer. The majority are female, producing live young called nymphs. Mating with males late season results in eggs which overwinter.
